The Top 10 Things Freshman Band Parents Should Know:
- DRIVEWAY ETIQUETTE When picking up your student after game nights PLEASE reserve the curb in front of the band hall for the band's van & trailer. Please wait in the softball field parking lot. DO NOT WAIT IN THE CIRCULAR DRIVE. This will make the bus drivers happy and gets everyone home quicker. Please be patient while the kids put their uniforms away & are given news etc., by the band directors.
- ATTIRE Until the weather cools off, the band will be wearing their new black Polo shirts or their SHOW SHIRT, a belt, blue jeans (in good condition) and their band shoes.
- Mr. Perrin will give your student directions. Your band student will always wear black socks (ankles must be covered) on performance days. No exceptions or face the band director's wrath! (be aware that your student may not march without the proper attire)
- UNIFORM DAYS We recommend that the students wear a pair of shorts that won't be too hot or bulky under their uniform pants. Basketball shorts or similar would be appropriate. The directors usually have the kids wear their 'Show' shirts. This year's shirt is "PASSION"( available to students for $7). And they must wear or bring a pair of BLACK SOCKS.
- COLD WEATHER GEAR As the days become cooler, your student will need to wear warm layers of clothing under his/her uniform. Pack black gloves, a scarf, band hoodie (if they have one), long black socks, ear muffs, etc. These items are personal preferences & you know your student best; if he/she runs on the chilly side---encourage layers.
- WATER COOLER Please make sure your student brings their water cooler to each practice and game. Sunglasses, sunscreen and a hat are helpful in the heat.
- HOME GAMES Your student may elect to stay in the band hall between school and the home game performance time. It may be easier to deliver a meal to your student and have them stay in the band hall after school.
- IF your student goes home after school, they are expected to be in the band hall at 5:45 p.m* (times vary). The bus leaves at 6:15 for Panther Stadium. Upon arrival at the band hall, the band unpacks the trailer, has a quick meeting & is then dismissed by the band director.
- AWAY GAMES Itineraries are usually handed out prior to game day with specific times for departing LHHS and returning to the band hall. Your student may bring a pillow & blanket for long drives, but valuables should be left at home. The buses are left unattended during the games. Dinner arrangements will be noted on the itinerary and website. Sometimes the kids will stop for a sit down dinner or fast food restaurant. The cost will vary on each trip. The school district gives each student a small amount of cash for dinner when long drive is involved.
- VOLUNTEERING We want to meet you and we need you! Volunteering is easy and fun. The concession stand is a major fundraiser for all of the bands, not just the high school. It is organized, fast paced and we'll pay you with a burger, hot dog or sausage wrap and a huge THANK YOU!
- STAND ETIQUETTE While your High School Band Student is at the football game (whether on the field or in the stands) please do not distract them from the job they are there to do. You are more than welcome and encouraged to take lots and lots of pictures, but please don't sit with your HS student, take them snacks or otherwise distract them from playing while at the football games.
- UNIFORMS, HATS & SHOES Please stress to your student the importance of being responsible for the care of their uniforms. The replacement costs are very high: Jackets $280 and hats $120.
